8.8-Magnitude Quake Kills At Least 122, Triggers Tsunami Warnings Across Pacific.
By News Desk — GlobalPost Editors

BOSTON — A 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile early Saturday. At least 122 people have been killed, with the toll expected to rise, and tsunami warnings have been issued for countries around the Pacific. The quake struck at 3:34 a.m. in central Chile. The capital Santiago is about 200 miles from the epicenter and Concepcion, Chile’s second-largest metropolitan area, is roughly 70 miles from the quake’s center. Sirens sounded at 6 a.m. Friday across Hawaii, warning people of a possible tsunami and telling people in coastal areas to evacuate. A wide array of Pacific nations are bracing for potentially devastating tidal waves. Countries across the Asia-Pacific region are readying emergency measures drawn up after the Indian Ocean quake of 2004, with the tsunami expected to hit in the next 24 hours.
Here's a roundup of reports from GlobalPost's correspondents around the region:
-
The earthquake
was strongly felt in Mendoza, Argentina, but no major damage or injuries have
been reported.
- Costa Rica has been spared from a possible tsunami and Nicaragua reported
hard waves crashing in at 9 a.m.
The following is a letter received a week after the quake from a cousin of Gary Adler who resides in Santiago, Chile:
For all our loving and friendly cousins, relatives and friends:
We are going on with our lives, work and everything thanks God.
We can say that in our city, Santiago, Capital of Chile, instead of the impressive damage, life is almost as it was before the earthquake because only a few buildings need to be closed for big repairs or demolition, and also only a few houses are completely destroyed.
The very complicated situation is located in southern central Chile (City of Concepción and surroundings) where they had the epicenter of the earthquake and also a big and repeated tsunami. In contrast, the fact that only two buildings turned over and were absolutely destroyed, we were lucky because the best anti earthquake construction is found in Chile. In Haiti, around 200.000 persons died in the last earthquake while we lost only around 1,000 this time, despite the tremendous force of this one (8.8 Richter scale).
This weekend we will have a National Telethon to raise money to help the most complicated zones and their people.
In our own home, we are going to begin repairs next week for a period of three weeks including painting the apartment because of little breaks all over and especially in the junction between walls and ceilings. Thankfully we didn't suffer any big problems in the scheme of things.
It is so nice that all of you are sending loving feelings for us and our family, but we want to assure you that we are truly fine.
With love
Luis Plaut J.

PPA REPRESENTED AT FRONT RANGE SHOWCASE
Spring brings the Front Range Showcase where consumers browse booths displaying all that Castle Rock has to offer in shopping, business, home, garden and play. This trade show brought out thousands of people who want to be entertained and educated on the different products and services in the area. The Castle Rock Chamber hosted and coordinated this annual event.
Pro Players Association had a booth at the Showcase to recruit members and promote our upcoming events. The Castle Rock Chamber donated the booth space to PPA in exchange for us providing autograph sessions over the two-day event.
The event ran Friday, April 11 from 2-7pm and Saturday, April 12 from 10a-5pm at the Douglas County Events Center in Castle Rock. We signed up a new Associate member, Julie Arlotti of Castle Rock. Julie is an events professional and we welcome her to our organization! We also made several new contacts with local merchants and town officials. All-in-all it was worth the time invested.
Thanks to the pros who donated their time to sign autographs! They were Dave Studdard, Paul Howard, Chuck Gavin, Marvin Montgomery and Jim Bob Rogers. Thanks also to the Associate members who assisted at the booth, Steve Kopff, Jason Williams, and Scott Anderson. All of you were greatly appreciated! Thanks and Kudos to the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce for their donation of the booth space to Pro Players Association!

"TTTS RACE FOR HOPE" 2007
On November 11th, 2007 (also Veterans Day), the 4th annual TTTS Race for Hope 5K Run/Walk, Kids Fun Run, Family Festival and Sponsor Expo took place at Washington Park, in Denver. This was a top 25 Colorado event and benefits the Fetal Hope Foundation.
The TTTS Race for Hope is our premier fundraising event (they are a national series) and our Denver event is the largest of them all in the US. The event had everything from on course entertainment, to free beer, massages, food sampling, a free lunch, fun for kids at our family festival and much, much more.
Every day we lose more than 30 babies to a fetal syndrome or distress such as Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, Acardiac Twin, Intrauterine Growth Restriction, Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction, and many more. We can save over 20 babies a day with proper diagnosis and medical care. This is the mission of Fetal Hope. For you that have kids, you know all to well how much they mean to you. Imagine that you never got to see them grow up, or take those first steps, or utter those first words? Today 10 families are learning they won't have those memories you and we have.
Lonnie Somers, CEO of Fetal Hope was fortunate, his girls (thanks to a fetal surgeon), survived a syndrome that we giving ZERO HOPE they would ever survive. PPA's presence at the event helped us make a difference!
PPA's involvement this year was fantastic and added a lot of fun and excitement to the event. Dave Studdard and Bill Harris were recognized as Grand Marshals of the event, assisted with the start of both the kids run and main run, congratulated the participants at the finish line, and signed hundreds of autographs.
